There are many different types available; each water cooler has various features as well.  They also come in a variety of sizes, each size has a maximum capacity of how many glasses of water it can fill before the dispenser needs to be changed or refilled. The Most Common Types

Bottled & chilled water coolers are the most popular choices when it comes to purchasing.  The problem with bottled coolers is that you have to ensure that the person responsible for the cooler is meticulous so that when the last bottle is placed onto the cooler an order for new bottles has been placed; this is also dependent on a delivery system of the water bottles.  Although a bottled system does provide large amounts of cold water to your employees in the office, it could be seen as a mini office catastrophe if there are no spare bottles to place onto the water cooler once the last one is finished!

Chilled coolers are wonderful as they provide water which is colder than the normal bottled one, simply because there is a refrigeration unit within the system, the down side of a chilled option is that the reservoir is not very big, therefore the capacity is not as large as the bottled version, but these smaller water coolers are perfect for smaller offices!

Some of the chilled water coolers actually have a heater as well, so you can have pure hot water for tea or coffee or cold pure water for drinking.  The ones that have both a heating and cooling function often cost a little more, but sometimes it is easier and more economical to have the water cooler than to have a kettle and a cooler.  There are also systems with the hot water feature that have additional features such as a safety unit which prevents the hot water from being dispensed and spilling all over, therefore employees and children are not at risk of being burnt by the boiling water.

A fourth type of water cooler available is the POU (point of use).  These are similar to the bottled type except that they attach to a water outlet, and purify the water more before it is actually dispensed by pushing on the tap.  Although not many POU systems have the features of the chilled water cooler, the POU do eliminate the need to have bottles of water delivered to the office on a regular basis, and they do come in various sizes so that the demand can be met.
